Bernard permits the United States to use British bases to strike Iran

London – Agencies: The new British Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, has approved the use of British military bases by the United States to direct strikes against Iran, continuing the policy of his predecessor, Keir Starmer, amid President Donald Trump’s escalation of his campaign against Tehran. The former Prime Minister, Starmer, chaired a meeting of senior ministers and officials on Friday to discuss British policy following earlier U.S. military operations this month, according to Bloomberg, citing sources familiar with the matter. Two sources told the agency that ministers decided at the meeting to maintain the current policy allowing the use of the Diego Garcia base in the Indian Ocean and the Royal Air Force Fairford base in Gloucestershire, England, by U.S. aircraft carrying out missions aimed at countering Iran’s missile threat, as well as sites used to target the Strait of Hormuz. The two sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the security issues, said Burnham, who assumed office on Monday, was briefed on the discussions and approved the decision. They further clarified that Burnham will continue the previous government’s policy regarding approval for the use of British bases.
