Kuwait’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Jara Al-Jaber, affirmed Kuwait’s commitment to strengthening joint cooperation with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) within the framework of the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative (ICI) to address current and emerging challenges in the region and to explore new areas of collaboration. This was stated in a speech delivered by Sheikh Jara Al-Jaber while chairing Kuwait’s delegation at the ministerial meeting of the ICI member states and NATO member countries, held on the sidelines of the NATO summit in the Turkish capital, Ankara.

Regarding regional developments, Al-Jaber reiterated Kuwait’s condemnation of Iran’s unjustified aggression that targeted the country and its civilian and vital facilities, in blatant violation of its sovereignty and a flagrant breach of international law and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817. He also welcomed the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the United States and Iran, commending the mediation efforts undertaken by Qatar and Pakistan. Kuwait expressed its hope that the MoU would contribute to enhancing regional security and stability through a dialogue addressing the concerns of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, foremost among which are Iran’s commitment to the principles of good neighborliness, its cessation of activities by its proxies, its ballistic missile and drone programs, and the guarantee of freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, the peaceful nature of its nuclear program, and the non-use of released Iranian assets for activities that destabilize the region.

In conclusion, Al-Jaber called for holding a joint ministerial meeting between ICI member states and NATO member countries in Kuwait in 2027, to help continue collective efforts toward achieving common goals and enhancing security and stability in the region and beyond.
