U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio denied on Monday that the United States had ever halted the sharing of information with Ukraine, urging Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to “focus” on bringing an end to the war with Russia.
Rubio told reporters in response to a question about Ukraine’s claims that the United States had briefly suspended intelligence sharing, “There was no stoppage.”
Zelenskyy had stated on Sunday to U.S. media that the American side resumed information sharing after a three-day suspension.
During a visit to Uzbekistan, where he met with leaders of Central Asian countries, Rubio added, “What he should focus on, and what we want to see focused on, is ending this war.”
He continued, “This is what we want everyone to focus on. This is what we want the Russians to focus on. And this is what we should focus on. This is what the President has made a priority: seeking an end to this war.”
U.S. President Donald Trump again attacked Zelenskyy on Sunday, accusing him of not wanting to end the war that has been ongoing since the start of the Russian invasion more than four and a half years ago.
Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform that “significant progress” is being made in talks related to the war, accusing Zelenskyy of being “indifferent, and frankly, despite all the money Europe is providing him… he does not want to end this war.”
He added, “Zelenskyy is using Russian diesel refineries as targets, and he knows that these attacks are causing significant damage to global diesel markets, including markets in the United States.”
Trump temporarily suspended sanctions on Russian diesel at the beginning of the month, allowing large quantities to flow into global markets, in an effort to lower fuel prices ahead of the midterm elections scheduled for early next month.
