A medical team at Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital, under the Ministry of Health, successfully performed a transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) on a patient in his seventies. The procedure was broadcast live via satellite to the Gulf Heart Valve Conference held in Dubai.

In a press statement on Thursday, the Ministry of Health said the patient had suffered from severe valve stenosis and had been repeatedly hospitalized due to fluid accumulation in the lungs, commonly known as “water on the lungs.” He was discharged in good health two days after the interventional catheterization.

The ministry clarified that the interventional catheterization was performed by the medical team comprising Dr. Ali Sahib and Dr. Mohammed Al-Turki under local anesthesia, using the Navitor Vision valve, a modern valve specifically designed for transcatheter implantation to treat aortic valve stenosis.

The ministry added that Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital continues to strengthen its presence in the field of complex transcatheter cardiac interventions by providing specialized care and sharing medical expertise with regional specialized conferences. It noted that conference organizers and participating experts from the United States praised the experience and competence of Kuwaiti physicians.
