The College of Science at Kuwait University, in collaboration with SLB, inaugurated the Petroleum Services Laboratory to advance applied education, enhance the technical skills of geology and petroleum geology students and master’s degree candidates, and support scientific research by faculty members.
In a press statement on Wednesday, College of Science Dean Dr. Haider Bahbahani said the laboratory provides specialized software and technologies for exploring petroleum reservoirs and studying subsurface geological formations, thereby bridging theoretical knowledge with practical applications and enabling students to become familiar with technologies used in the oil industry.
Bahbahani emphasized the importance of collaboration between academic institutions and the oil sector in developing scientific and practical capabilities, noting that partnerships with specialized institutions contribute to enhancing the educational and research environment and strengthening the readiness of national talent to keep pace with scientific and technological advancements and labor market demands.
For her part, Assistant Dean for Planning, Consultations, and Training at the College of Science, Dr. Fawzia Abdullah, stated in a similar statement that the laboratory allows students to learn the latest software used in petroleum exploration and develop their technical skills through the use of specialized digital tools for studying geological formations and exploring petroleum reservoirs.
Abdullah added that developing scientific and training facilities enhances the quality of academic outputs, supports the integration of theoretical education with practical application, and opens broader horizons for leveraging expertise and technologies used in the oil sector, thereby contributing to the preparation of qualified national cadres in earth sciences and petroleum geology.
