Rubio Calls on Russia to Share Information and Be Transparent After Reports of Plague Death

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Tuesday that Russia must be transparent following reports that a laboratory worker died from plague infection in Siberia, adding that Washington is monitoring the situation “very closely.”
Rubio, speaking during a visit to Iceland, said, “I believe it is Russia’s duty, of course, to share more information with the world,” urging it to demonstrate “transparency.” This came a day after Russia’s Public Health Agency denied reports that health measures had been implemented in the Irkutsk region of Siberia following the death of an employee at a plague research institute.
