Interior Ministry: Foils attempt to smuggle approximately 4 kilograms of heroin hidden in car spare parts

The Ministry of Interior announced on Monday that it had thwarted an attempt to smuggle approximately 4 kilograms of heroin into the country, which was concealed in an innovative manner inside car spare parts, and that two individuals of Asian nationality linked to the case were apprehended.

In a press statement, the Interior Ministry said that the General Directorate for Drug Control, in coordination and cooperation with the General Directorate of Customs, seized a shipment in which the narcotics were secretly hidden within 16 metal components of the "crank" type.

It added that follow-up and investigation operations led to the arrest of the suspects in the Al-Mubarakiya Al-Kubra and Salwa districts after they received the shipment. It noted that a search of their residences uncovered 100 grams of the substance "Shabu" (methamphetamine) and a sensitive scale.

The ministry clarified that the suspects, upon being confronted with the seized items, admitted to receiving instructions from a person residing outside the country to receive shipments, unload the narcotics, and distribute them within the country in exchange for financial compensation.

It stated that the necessary legal measures were taken against the suspects, and they, along with the seized items, were referred to the competent authority on charges of possession of narcotics for the purposes of trafficking and consumption.
