Cooperation Council Secretary-General: Active Gulf participation in international forums reflects the status of the Council's member states and their strategic partnerships
Jasim Al-Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC), affirmed on Monday that the active Gulf presence in international forums and the continuous growth of the Council’s relations with countries, regional and international groups, and organizations reflect the advanced standing of the GCC states on the international stage and their strategic partnerships.
The GCC General Secretariat stated in a statement that these remarks were made by Al-Budaiwi on the occasion of the GCC Coordinating Ministerial Council meeting, chaired by Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain and current rotating chair, and attended by the foreign ministers of the GCC states. The meeting was held on Sunday on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, United States.
The GCC Secretary-General said that the meeting comes within the framework of continuous coordination and consultation among the Gulf states on various issues of mutual concern, aiming to strengthen the unified Gulf position and consolidate the joint efforts of the Council’s member states in regional and international forums.
He clarified that the meeting included a review and discussion of the upcoming joint ministerial meetings between the GCC and a number of countries, regional and international groups, and organizations, scheduled to be held on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. The discussions also covered coordination on the agenda items and issues on the table, with the aim of enhancing shared interests and advancing cooperation and partnership toward broader horizons.
Al-Budaiwi noted that the joint ministerial meetings held by the GCC on the sidelines of the General Assembly reflect the mutual interest between the Council and its international and regional partners in developing relations, based on the pivotal role and growing standing of the Gulf states in supporting security, stability, and development, and in enhancing opportunities for dialogue and cooperation at both the regional and international levels.
He also affirmed that the GCC states are committed to strengthening their regional and international relations and building effective and sustainable partnerships based on mutual respect and shared interests, contributing to consolidating security, stability, peace, and development regionally and internationally. This also reflects the unified positions of the GCC states on regional and international issues.
It is worth noting that Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Jeraf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah participated on Sunday in the GCC Coordinating Ministerial Council meeting, held on the sidelines of the High-Level Week of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York, United States.
