Launch of the fourth edition of the "Your School's Wish" plastic collection competition, sponsored by the Ministry of Education and supervised by the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training
The non-profit organization “Omniya” announced the launch of the fourth edition of the “Omniya Your School” plastic collection competition for the 2026/2027 academic year. The event is under the patronage of the Ministry of Education for the fourth consecutive year, with supervision by the Public Authority for Environmental Affairs, and patronage from the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of State for Development and Sustainability Affairs, the Green Urban Development Initiatives Committee, Kuwait Oil Company, and other private sector sponsors.
Sanaa Al-Ghamlas, CEO of Omniya, stated that the Ministry of Education’s continued patronage of the competition for the fourth consecutive year reflects the event’s success, the expansion of its database on individual performance, its wider reach, and the heightened environmental awareness regarding source separation of waste. She emphasized that the initiative fosters a generation conscious of the importance of recycling to protect the environment of their beloved country, Kuwait—a positive impact clearly observed by the Ministry of Education. The participating schools are invited to attend the accompanying exhibition at The Avenues – Grand Plaza from September 17 to 30, 2026, daily from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
Al-Ghamlas added that the competition targets the educational sector, which forms the foundation of community building. She praised the participation of additional government entities this year as evidence of the state’s commitment to environmental sustainability. She noted that their presence at The Avenues for two weeks will help attract a larger segment of the community to contribute to the competition by collecting plastic waste and delivering it to participating schools.
She further stated that Omniya aims to increase the number of participating government schools, from kindergarten through secondary level, in this fourth edition. Last year, 156 schools collected 264 tons of plastic within just six weeks. This material was recycled by relevant authorities, helping to save 792 cubic meters of landfill space and reduce 660 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. This year, the goal is to double these quantities.
Al-Ghamlas expressed her deep gratitude to Minister of Education M. Syed Jalal Al-Tabatabai for adopting the sustainability strategy of the competition to achieve the goals of Kuwait Vision 2035. She commended his consistent presence, which serves to motivate students and has a significant positive impact. She also thanked all participating schools for their substantial efforts in realizing the vision of a sustainable Kuwait.
Investing in students’ environmental awareness represents a long-term investment in Kuwait’s future. She highlighted that the objective is to make source separation of plastic a daily habit for the new generation, ensuring that students understand their role in protecting the environment begins with their daily practices.
