Zelensky: Canada will provide support to Ukraine in the field of air defense

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Thursday that Ottawa would provide additional air defense support to Kyiv, during a visit to Canada where he held talks with Prime Minister Mark Carney.

Zelenskyy said, “I am very grateful. It is an extremely important air defense package, and this is crucial.”

Carney noted that Canada had provided $26 billion Canadian dollars ($19 billion US) in support to Ukraine in response to the Russian invasion, adding that further aid would be provided.

The Canadian prime minister said, “We have provided support for energy systems and other areas. We will provide more support.”

Carney and Zelenskyy signed a declaration on Thursday committing both countries to a 100-year partnership in the security and economic fields.

Kyiv had previously signed a similar partnership with London in January 2025.

Ukraine has emphasized its urgent need to enhance its air defense capabilities in the face of increasing Russian strikes using ballistic missiles.
