Saudi Arabia welcomes IAEA's decision to drop the implementation of the safeguards agreement in Syria

Saudi Arabia welcomed on Wednesday the adoption by the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) of the resolution concerning Syria, which led to the Board’s decision to close consideration of the item on the implementation of safeguards, in light of positive developments regarding the file and Syria’s cooperation with the Agency.

In a statement, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its appreciation to all member states of the IAEA Board of Governors for reaching full consensus on the resolution proposed by member states of the Board, namely Saudi Arabia, in its capacity as Chair of the Arab Group in Vienna, along with Jordan, Egypt, and Morocco, reflecting support for the positive developments witnessed in the Syrian file.

It reaffirmed its support for fraternal Syria and all efforts and steps aimed at enhancing its security, stability, and sovereignty, and supporting its national institutions, in a manner that contributes to realizing the aspirations of the fraternal Syrian people for a future characterized by security, stability, and prosperity.
