Kuwait's Ambassador to Washington: The Al-Sabah Collection's artifacts document multiple stages of Islamic art history

Kuwait’s Ambassador to the United States, Sheikha Al-Zain Al-Sabah, affirmed on Saturday the importance of the role played by the Dar Al-Athar Al-Islamyyat (Institute for the Advancement of the Arab World) in Kuwait, which houses artifacts from the Al-Sabah Collection, in documenting various stages of the history of Islamic art and its civilizations that have spread across the world.

This statement was made by Sheikha Al-Zain Al-Sabah in an interview with the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) during her visit to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, Virginia, to view the exhibition “The Great Mughals,” which features artifacts from the Al-Sabah Collection in Kuwait alongside an exceptional array of artistic and historical works that showcase the rich artistic and cultural heritage of the Islamic Mughal civilization in India.

Sheikha Al-Zain Al-Sabah noted that the participation of the Al-Sabah Collection – Dar Al-Athar Al-Islamyyat in this exhibition reflects Kuwait’s distinguished cultural presence and its role in preserving, studying, and promoting Islamic heritage globally.

She added that the participation also underscores the importance of art and heritage in building bridges of communication and enhancing dialogue and cultural exchange between Kuwait and the United States.

The participation of the Al-Sabah Collection – Dar Al-Athar Al-Islamyyat in this exhibition holds particular significance due to the collection’s esteemed international standing and its rare artifacts, which document various stages of the history of Islamic art and its civilizations across different regions of the world.
