Arab League Secretary-General calls on the international community to confront the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian economy
Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy called on the international community on Wednesday to counter Israel’s illegal measures against the Palestinian economy and to pressure the Israeli occupation government to halt its aggressive campaign against the Palestinian banking sector and economy.
The Arab League stated in a press release that this appeal came during a meeting between Fahmy and Yahya al-Sinwar, Chairman of the Palestinian Monetary Authority, to discuss the crisis facing the Palestinian banking sector under the measures imposed by the Israeli occupation authorities.
The statement added that Fahmy listened to a presentation by al-Sinwar on the repercussions of recent Israeli occupation policies targeting Palestinian banks, which constitute a blatant violation of the Paris Economic Protocol signed in 1994.
Fahmy clarified that these measures aim to strangle the Palestinian economy, sever its ties with the outside world, and prevent it from conducting external transactions, including the importation of essential goods and the provision of electricity and water services. He also highlighted the Israeli occupation’s seizure of Palestinian clearance revenues, noting that the value of deductions has exceeded six billion dollars.
Fahmy expressed his full support for Palestine in confronting the Israeli plot aimed at undermining the capabilities of the Palestinian Authority and tightening the squeeze on Palestinian citizens.
He also expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Chairman of the Palestinian Monetary Authority amid the difficult conditions facing the occupied Palestinian territories, emphasizing the need for the international community to recognize that the Israeli occupation continues to wage a comprehensive economic war against the Palestinian state, following its genocide in the Gaza Strip, and that the agenda of the extremist settler right uses the economy as a weapon to pressure Palestinians.
He stressed that the international community bears significant responsibility in confronting this extremist agenda and preserving the two-state solution.
