Boy arrested in Norway suspected of plotting "terrorist act"

Norwegian police announced on Wednesday the arrest of a 16-year-old boy suspected of planning “a terrorist act,” with media reports indicating he was targeting a daycare center.

Public Prosecutor Lise Dahl-Haug told AFP that the boy was arrested after police received information “from an unidentified person abroad” regarding “alarming threats posted on several social media networks.”

An investigation has been opened into “planning a terrorist act,” according to the public prosecutor.

The suspect was detained in early June, but the arrest was not made public at the time.

The newspaper Aftenposten reported that the boy intended to carry out an attack on a daycare center using axes and knives.

The public prosecutor did not confirm these details, stating only that he “mentioned several targets.”

She said the suspect had issued threats on several social media platforms, and the investigation revealed that he “was planning alone.”

She noted that he lives in the Vestfold area south of Oslo, and the investigation is expected to conclude in late September.
