Several people injured in a sword attack on a Swedish school

Västerås Municipality in central Sweden said in a statement that several people were injured on Friday at a Swedish high school by an armed individual wielding a sword.

The police said in a statement, “We received a report of an ongoing lethal violence incident at a school in Västerås. Police responded to the scene and have taken one person into custody.”

They added, “We continue to work at the scene using various resources. We urge people to respect roadblocks and comply with police instructions.”

Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer told Reuters in a statement that the government is in close contact with the police following the attack.

He added, “We have been informed of a serious incident in Västerås. Police are on the scene and working intensively on the case.”
