Violent storms kill two people and cut off electricity to hundreds of thousands in the United States

Officials said powerful storms swept through the Midwest region of the United States on Tuesday, killing at least two people and leaving nearly a million without electricity.

Cody Lowe, deputy police chief of Jennings County, said a four-year-old child died after a tree fell on his home in the town of Geneva, Indiana.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine said one person died after floods prevented emergency crews from reaching him in Roseville.

Local media reported that one person died in an explosion and fire at a home in Portage, Indiana, following the storms. Police said the cause of the explosion remains under investigation.

According to PowerOutage.us, more than 800,000 electricity customers in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky remained without power until midnight Eastern Time on Tuesday.

Ohio Governor DeWine said, “Even after the storms leave the state, flooding will remain a major concern.”
