6.6-magnitude earthquake strikes Colombia

A powerful earthquake struck Colombia and other Latin American countries on Monday, causing buildings to shake in the capital, Bogotá, and in Quito, the capital of Ecuador.

The earthquake, measured at 6.6 magnitude by the Colombian Geological Survey and 7.4 by the United States Geological Survey, occurred at a depth of approximately 100 kilometers. Its epicenter was located near San José del Palmar in the Chocó region of western Colombia. Buildings were evacuated in Bogotá, according to reports from France Press journalists on the scene.
