Official media cited the regional press office in a statement on Monday, saying, “According to the latest information, 12 people were killed and 39 others injured in an attack by an enemy drone on Nizhnekamsk.”
The industrial city of Nizhnekamsk is located more than 1,000 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. Rich in energy resources, it hosts several major oil refineries that have been targeted by Kyiv.
Undated footage posted on social media showed a large cloud of black smoke rising from an oil facility near the city.
Both sides have significantly escalated their long-range attacks this year, leading to a sharp rise in civilian casualties, according to the United Nations.
Near the front lines in Ukraine, a Russian artillery strike killed five people in a village in the Kharkiv region in the northeast, according to local Ukrainian officials.
The regional prosecutor’s office stated in a statement published on Telegram on Monday that “Russian forces carried out intense artillery shelling on August 10 on the residential area of Bogayevka village in the Chuhuiv district, destroying several homes and killing five people.”

According to officials, a woman was also killed in a Ukrainian attack on the Russian border region of Belgorod, while a man was killed in a Russian drone strike targeting a taxi in the Kherson region of Ukraine, which lies along the frontline.
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Air Force said Russia launched 126 drones in an overnight attack.
