GCC Secretary-General Strongly Condemns Iranian Attack on Emirati Tanker in the Strait of Hormuz

The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jassem Al-Budaiwi, expressed his condemnation in the strongest and most severe terms on Saturday regarding the dangerous Iranian attack targeting a tanker belonging to the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) as it transited the Strait of Hormuz.

In a press statement, Al-Budaiwi said, “This attack represents a dangerous and unacceptable escalation and a direct threat to the security and safety of maritime navigation and international trade in one of the world’s most vital waterways.”

He firmly rejected any Iranian attempts to turn this vital international passage into a tool for pressure and threats, calling on the international community to assume its responsibilities and take a firm stance to halt these dangerous attacks, prevent their recurrence, and ensure freedom and security of maritime navigation in accordance with the principles of international law, the law of the sea, and relevant international resolutions.

Al-Budaiwi emphasized the GCC’s full and steadfast solidarity with the United Arab Emirates, its support for the UAE, and its backing of all measures taken by the UAE to protect its security, sovereignty, assets, and interests.
