The First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Fahad Youssef Al-Saud Al-Sabah, affirmed that the anniversary of the brutal Iraqi invasion of Kuwait on August 2 will remain an eternal national milestone, allowing us to proudly recall the sacrifices of the martyrs, the heroism of security personnel and military forces, and the honorable deeds they performed, which embodied the highest meanings of loyalty, dedication, and sacrifice in defense of the nation, its legitimacy, and its sovereignty.
Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef told the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on the occasion of the 36th anniversary of the brutal Iraqi invasion, which coincides with today, Sunday, that this painful anniversary is not merely a remembrance of a historical event, but a recurring national occasion to reinforce the values of national unity, loyalty, and belonging, and to draw lessons from a period in which Kuwaitis proved they were of one heart, united around their legitimate leadership and steadfast in their commitment to their homeland despite the magnitude of the challenges.
He added that the brutal Iraqi invasion on August 2, 1990, revealed to the world the true nature of the Kuwaiti people, highlighting their cohesion, unity, and belief in the justice of their cause, alongside the support Kuwait received from its brothers and friends, which enabled it to regain its freedom and sovereignty.
He clarified that the international community’s support for Kuwait during the ordeal of the invasion was not a spontaneous reaction, but rather the fruit of a firm Kuwaiti approach based on moderation, respect for international law, and the building of balanced relations with countries around the world. This approach contributed to the victory of Kuwait’s just cause, the restoration of legitimacy, and the liberation of the country.
Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef noted that security personnel were at the forefront during the invasion period, fulfilling their national duty with great courage and dedication, offering the finest examples of sacrifice and selflessness alongside their brothers in the Armed Forces. Their immortal deeds remain a source of pride and a model to emulate in loyalty to the nation and its defense.
He stated that the Ministry of Interior commemorates with deep appreciation and reverence the noble martyrs of Kuwait who gave their lives in defense of the homeland, and proudly recalls the sacrifices made by security personnel in protecting Kuwait and safeguarding its security. He emphasized that these heroic deeds will remain etched in the nation’s memory and serve as a source of inspiration for successive generations.
Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef stressed that preserving Kuwait’s security, stability, and sovereignty is a continuation of those great sacrifices. On this occasion, members of the Ministry of Interior renew their pledge of loyalty to the nation by continuing to perform their security mission with competence and capability, working to protect the country’s security and reinforce the rule of law, thereby safeguarding Kuwait’s security, stability, and achievements.
He prayed to Almighty God to envelop the noble martyrs of Kuwait in His boundless mercy, to protect the State of Kuwait, and to perpetuate upon it the blessings of security, safety, and stability. He also prayed that God grant success to His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah (may God protect and guard him), to His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah (may God protect him), and to His Excellency Sheikh Ahmed Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, the Prime Minister (may God protect him), in all that serves the best interests and elevation of the nation.
