United Nations calls for evacuation of 6,000 sailors stranded in the Strait of Hormuz

On Friday, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk called on the countries involved in the ongoing war in the Middle East to help evacuate and repatriate approximately 6,000 seafarers stranded in the Strait of Hormuz.
His spokesperson, Shabana Mantoo, told journalists in Geneva that “the parties to the conflict must urgently facilitate the safe passage of stranded seafarers to ensure their evacuation and safe disembarkation, as well as to guarantee the delivery of essential supplies.”
