Washington announces provision of over $200 million in support for the Red Crescent and Red Cross

The United States announced on Thursday the provision of more than $200 million in humanitarian assistance to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).

In a statement, the U.S. Department of State said that this assistance adopts a flexible, global approach that enables implementing organizations to address ongoing humanitarian crises and respond to new disasters by utilizing available funding, thereby helping to bypass lengthy procurement procedures and timelines.

It added that the funding supports organizations capable of rapid response in the event of disasters and ensures access to those in need in conflict zones, leveraging existing global infrastructure for disaster response and humanitarian action.

The ministry clarified that the aid includes a contribution of approximately $133 million to the ICRC’s 2026 Global Appeal, as well as $70 million to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
