Minister of Communications: Accelerating the pace of digital transformation, enhancing government integration, and improving service quality

The Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology and Acting Minister of Media and Culture, Omar Al-Omar, emphasized the importance of accelerating the pace of digital transformation, enhancing government integration, and improving the quality of services provided to citizens and residents.

This statement came during an interview given by Minister Al-Omar to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) upon signing today, Thursday, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and E-Portal Holding Company, a subsidiary of Kuwait Telecommunications Company (stc), to support the development and launch of additional digital government services through the unified government application for electronic services, “Sahel,” in line with the Cabinet’s directives aimed at accelerating digital transformation and enhancing the quality of government services.

Minister Al-Omar stated that the MoU aims to support the development and launch of more digital government services via the unified government application “Sahel,” and represents a successful model of partnership between the public and private sectors.

He noted that the MoU reflects the importance of leveraging national expertise and technical capabilities to support strategic digital projects, aligning with the state’s vision of building an integrated and more efficient digital government.

He added that the “Sahel” application is witnessing continuous development in digital services and user experience, with the upcoming phase set to launch more services and digital journeys that simplify government procedures and enhance quality of life.

He pointed out that this partnership represents a qualitative addition that supports the Ministry’s efforts to accelerate the implementation of digital initiatives and expand the scope of government services provided through the application.

Minister Al-Omar highlighted that the private sector’s contribution to supporting national projects reflects a spirit of responsibility and partnership, helping to accelerate achievements and deliver added value to citizens and residents. He commended the initiative of E-Portal Holding Company, one of stc’s subsidiaries.

For his part, Engineer Mutaib Al-Darraj, Chairman of the Board of Directors of E-Portal Holding Company, expressed his pride in signing the MoU with the Ministry of State for Communications, telling KUNA that this initiative stems from the company’s belief in its national responsibility and its commitment to contributing to the digital transformation journey in the State of Kuwait.

Al-Darraj said the company will deploy its expertise and technical capabilities to support the development of more digital government services through the “Sahel” application, keeping pace with global best practices and contributing to simplifying government procedures and enhancing user experience.

He affirmed that cooperation between the public and private sectors is one of the key factors for the success of digital transformation projects, expressing the company’s hope that this partnership will support national digital projects and enhance the efficiency of government services, thereby fulfilling the aspirations of the wise leadership and serving citizens and residents.

The MoU was signed by Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology and Acting Minister of Media and Culture, Omar Al-Omar, while Engineer Mutaib Al-Darraj, Chairman of the Board of Directors, signed on behalf of E-Portal Holding Company.

The signing ceremony concluded with an emphasis on the importance of continuing to build strategic partnerships between the public and private sectors to support the development of digital government services, improve institutional performance efficiency, and strengthen the State of Kuwait’s position in the field of digital transformation.
