Egyptian Foreign Minister stresses the need to accelerate the delivery of aid to the Gaza Strip
Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, emphasized the necessity of accelerating the delivery of aid to the Gaza Strip and ensuring that aid flows reach the minimum required level of 600 trucks per day to guarantee an effective response to the urgent humanitarian needs of the population in the Strip.
The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release on Monday that this position was conveyed during a phone call received by Abdelatty from Sigrid Kaag, Executive Board Member of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), as part of continuous consultation and coordination regarding developments in the occupied Palestinian territories and international efforts aimed at consolidating the truce, alleviating the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, and supporting the early recovery and reconstruction process.
The statement clarified that Abdelatty stressed during the call the importance of completing the implementation of the first phase commitments of the American president’s plan, ensuring full and rapid access for humanitarian aid, and preparing the conditions for transitioning to subsequent phases leading to early recovery and reconstruction.
Abdelatty reaffirmed the importance of the Security Council fulfilling its role in supporting international efforts to consolidate the ceasefire and deploy an international stabilization force in the Gaza Strip to enhance security and stability in the area, emphasizing the necessity of an Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister condemned the ongoing violations by the Israeli occupation in the West Bank, including repeated incursions into holy sites, and reiterated the firm rejection of annexation and settlement policies as blatant violations of international law and a undermining of the prospects for achieving a two-state solution.
He noted that regional stability and security in the Middle East would not be achieved unless the Palestinian people regain all their legitimate and inalienable rights.
The statement added that Kaak expressed her deep appreciation for Egypt’s role in supporting stability efforts in the Gaza Strip, commending Egypt’s continuous initiatives to bridge differences among various parties and advance efforts to improve humanitarian conditions and enhance prospects for achieving peace and stability in the region.
