Eight killed in Ukrainian drone attack on two logistics centers in Russia

Attacks by Ukrainian drones on two logistics centers in Russia killed at least eight people, while a fire at an oil warehouse in a Moscow suburb forced the evacuation of a maternity clinic, local authorities said on Saturday.

Evgeny Permyakov, governor of the Tambov region, wrote on the Telegram app that “seven night-shift workers were killed when enemy drones targeted a logistics center belonging to Wildberries,” the Russian e-commerce giant.

He added that the attack in Kotovsk also left 24 people injured.

A Wildberries warehouse in Elektrostal, a Moscow suburb, was hit by drone shrapnel, according to Governor Andrey Vorobyov, who reported one death and 37 injuries.

Additionally, a fire broke out at an “oil warehouse in Noginsk,” the governor said, noting that two people were injured and a nearby maternity clinic was evacuated “for security reasons.”

A France Press reporter saw black smoke rising from the town on Saturday morning, along with several ambulances heading there from Moscow.

The area was targeted by more than 370 drones overnight, according to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin. He wrote in a Telegram post that “the majority were shot down by air defenses while still far away. 64 enemy drones were destroyed as they approached Moscow.”

Ukraine has intensified its attacks on Russian territory in recent months, specifically targeting infrastructure and energy facilities in an attempt to constrain Moscow’s resources for funding its war effort.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on X that “two major logistics facilities in the Moscow and Tambov regions, more than 500 and 700 kilometers from the front line, were hit,” adding that the centers were used “to supply components subject to sanctions that are used to produce drones and navigation equipment.”

In Ukraine, Russian strikes killed one person and injured 13.

In the Black Sea, a ship flying the flag of Antigua and Barbuda was hit, killing one person and injuring three, according to Oleg Kiper, governor of the Odesa region.

Sources from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, transport authorities, and local officials reported that a family of five was injured in the Chernihiv region (northeast), four people aboard a ship flying the flag of the Marshall Islands were injured, and one man was injured in Kherson (south).
