Istanbul -- The United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP31) kicks off tomorrow, Monday, in the Turkish city of Antalya, with the participation of heads of state, high-ranking officials, representatives of civil society organizations, and academics from around the world. Turkey is hosting the conference from November 9 to 20 under the theme “The Future Conference… The Implementation Conference,” aiming to strengthen international cooperation and translate climate commitments into concrete actions.

An area of 1.1 million square meters has been prepared to host the conference events, divided into two main zones: the “Blue Zone” for official negotiations and high-level meetings, and the “Green Zone” for exhibitions, community activities, and technological initiatives. The Blue Zone includes negotiation halls, delegation offices, a media center, and a museum dedicated to the “Zero Waste” project. The Green Zone hosts specialized centers on energy, green industry, sustainable cities, and culture.

Turkey has named the largest hall in the Green Zone “Gaza,” which seats 5,000 people, while the largest hall in the Blue Zone has been named “Anatolia” and accommodates 1,794 attendees. Other halls have been named after notable historical and scientific figures and cultural landmarks in Turkey.

In terms of logistical preparations, Turkish authorities have allocated approximately 28,000 security personnel to ensure the conference’s safety, along with 630 low-emission buses for participant transportation. Five medical centers, seven ambulances, two backup vehicles, and 20 mobile emergency medical response teams have also been deployed. (End)
