Cairo, Nov 7 (KUNA) -- Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, emphasized the importance of continuing efforts to fully implement US President Donald Trump’s comprehensive peace plan for the Gaza Strip, while warning against the dangers of Israeli occupation practices in the West Bank, including settlement expansion and attempts to impose facts on the ground.
The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Saturday that this came during a phone call between Abdelatty and European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas, which covered relations between Egypt and the EU and regional developments.
The statement clarified that the call addressed regional developments, foremost among them efforts to contain tensions and restore calm amid potential military escalation in the region. Abdelatty stressed the paramount importance of continuing the negotiation process, emphasizing that dialogue and diplomatic solutions are the only means to prevent the recurrence of military confrontations.
According to the statement, Abdelatty underscored the necessity of ensuring freedom and safety of navigation in international waterways, describing them as a fundamental pillar for regional stability, the global economy, and the security of international supply chains and trade. In this context, he warned of the serious repercussions of any threats targeting vital sea lanes on energy and food security, particularly given that Egypt is one of the world’s largest importers of grains, especially wheat.
The statement said the Egyptian Foreign Minister appreciated during the call the progress witnessed in Egypt-EU relations, expressing optimism about continuing work with the High Representative to support cooperation within the framework of implementing the six pillars of the comprehensive strategic partnership. He also highlighted the importance of attracting more European investments to Egypt, facilitating the access of Egyptian exports to European markets, and strengthening private-sector partnerships.
He further noted that the call also discussed preparations for the second Egypt-EU Summit, which Egypt is scheduled to host next year. (End) A.S.M./T.M.A.
