The Kuwait Capital Markets Authority (CMA) stated that it conducted awareness activities in the university educational sector—specifically at the Australian University and the American University in Kuwait—as part of the Authority’s national initiative to enhance financial inclusion and investment awareness.
In a press release issued on Saturday, the CMA added that the activities held at the Australian University between November 2 and 5 were divided into five awareness workshops targeting various segments of the university’s student body, alongside an awareness booth at the university campus. The booth provided an introduction to the CMA and highlighted various aspects of its activities, while also showcasing its key awareness outputs.
The Authority noted that the event included an overview of the CMA’s background, the circumstances and rationale behind its establishment, and its objectives. It presented the Authority’s vision and specific goals as outlined in its founding law, particularly regarding the regulation of securities activities in a manner characterized by fairness, competitiveness, and transparency, while ensuring protection for participants in these activities.
Furthermore, the event addressed the development of capital markets and the enhancement of investment instruments, with efforts to align with global best practices. It also focused on raising public awareness about securities activities, the benefits and risks associated with securities investment, and the importance of encouraging such investment.
The Authority explained that it presented its key roles and the responsibilities of its various sectors, covering regulatory, legislative, supervisory, and awareness-related aspects. This included details on the nature and objectives of its national initiative to enhance financial inclusion and investment awareness, as well as a brief overview of the key achievements accomplished in these areas since the Authority’s establishment up to its most recent fiscal year.
Regarding the American University in Kuwait, the CMA highlighted its participation in the university’s annual Accounting Day event in 2026. The participation featured an informational booth showcasing the CMA, which displayed various awareness materials on an electronic screen. These materials covered an introduction to the Authority’s roles, responsibilities, and functions, emphasizing its general economic role and its specific role in securities activities.
The Authority indicated that these activities are part of its national project launched in 2017, aimed at enhancing financial awareness and investment culture among various societal segments, particularly within the educational and university sectors. This initiative enables the CMA to fulfill its mandated role in strengthening the foundations of financial inclusion, which has become essential for economies and societies worldwide in the current era.
The Kuwait Capital Markets Authority was established under Law No. 7 of 2010 concerning the creation of the Capital Markets Authority and the regulation of securities activities, and its amendments, which was enacted in 2010. Under this law, the Authority is responsible for regulating and monitoring securities activities, ensuring transparency, fairness, and efficiency, and compelling listed companies to adhere to corporate governance principles. It also protects investors from unfair practices and violations of the Authority’s law, oversees mergers and acquisitions and disclosure processes, and provides awareness programs regarding securities activities.
