Cairo, Nov 6 (KUNA) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdelatty held a telephone conversation today with UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan to discuss the ongoing developments in the region.

In a statement, Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ambassador Nader Zaki said that the call covered recent developments in the region, including the situation in Sudan, as well as developments related to the Iranian crisis.

He added that both sides agreed on the importance of “continuing efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region, contain current tensions, and strive to restore calm and prioritize political negotiation tracks to prevent the region from sliding into a new military confrontation and another wave of violence and destruction, which would further exacerbate the security challenges facing the region.”

According to the statement, the two ministers emphasized the importance of intensifying diplomatic moves and communications during the current period, in coordination with regional and international partners, “to provide opportunities and allow more time for diplomatic tracks, thereby enhancing the prospects for establishing peace and supporting the security and stability of the region.” (End) A.S.M. / M.A.A.
