Washington, Nov 5 (KUNA) -- The U.S. State Department announced on Thursday the imposition of a new package of sanctions against individuals and entities linked to Cuba, as part of efforts to intensify pressure on the Cuban government and target its economic and logistical networks and sources of support for its military forces. In a statement, the State Department said the sanctions, issued under an executive order by President Donald Trump, target Cuban figures, a network specializing in crude oil shipping, government institutions involved in importation and technical support, and military equipment suppliers based in China. The statement added that the measures also include designating five vessels on the blocked property list, a move aimed at disrupting maritime transport networks linked to Cuban oil trade. In a related development, the U.S. Department of Treasury announced on Thursday the issuance of a decision allowing the imposition of economic sanctions on foreign persons who work or have previously worked in Cuba’s electronics, manufacturing, maritime, and technology sectors. The U.S. administration accuses the Cuban leadership of exploiting the country’s economic resources, particularly in the energy, shipping, and technology sectors, to serve the interests of the ruling elite at the expense of the living conditions of the population. It also accuses external parties of supporting the Cuban regime’s military capabilities and providing equipment that enables it to continue its activities. (End) A.M.M. / M.M.J.
