Kuwait City, 5 Nov (KUNA) – The “Creativity Festival” kicked off today, Thursday, under the patronage of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters, with the participation of numerous creative talents, national talents, and creative entrepreneurs. The event aims to highlight national capacities, explore opportunities to develop the creative economy, and strengthen its various sectors.
In a speech at the opening ceremony, Acting Secretary-General of the Council, Muassad Al-Zamil, said the festival provides an occasion to celebrate ideas, talents, and creative energies, and to showcase how creativity can offer new opportunities for development. He added that creativity is no longer a parallel activity to the economy or merely an expression of talent; it has become one of the key components of modern economies, a source of innovation, job creation, business development, and a means of enhancing cultural identity and national competitiveness.
Al-Zamil explained that the importance of such initiatives lies in providing spaces for dialogue, knowledge exchange, and building bridges of cooperation between government institutions, the private sector, and practitioners across various creative fields. He noted that the challenge extends beyond possessing talent and ideas to creating an enabling environment that fosters their development and transforms them into projects and products with economic and social value.
He pointed out that the festival offers a practical model of this approach through dialogue sessions and workshops covering multiple areas, including content creation, marketing, fashion, branding, cinema, and new media. These activities enable participants to learn from diverse professional experiences and explore employment and investment opportunities in these sectors.
Al-Zamil stated that the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters emphasizes that developing the creative economy requires sustained institutional efforts that go beyond organizing events to building an integrated system encompassing capacity building, infrastructure development, partnership enhancement, investment stimulation, and the preparation of appropriate legislative and regulatory environments. He stressed that the Council’s responsibility extends beyond supporting cultural activities to empowering creatives, expanding opportunities for them, and enhancing the contribution of culture and creativity to the national development process. He expressed his hope that the festival would mark the beginning of a sustainable path of cooperation, dialogue, and the launch of initiatives and partnerships across various creative fields in Kuwait.
For his part, Waleed Al-Kheshati, Chief Executive Officer of Corporate Relations and Institutional Affairs at Zain Kuwait, said in a similar address that Kuwaiti creativity has the potential to transcend borders and reach audiences worldwide, provided the right opportunities and support are available. He expressed the company’s pleasure in supporting the festival and showcasing new ideas and success stories originating from Kuwait and reaching the global stage. Al-Kheshati added that while the concept of creativity may vary from person to person, its essence lies in thinking differently, having the courage to present new ideas, and leaving a mark in people’s memories.
The festival, which runs until November 7, saw the launch of the “Qanaway” content creation platform. Its program includes dialogue sessions, workshops, and various activities aimed at exchanging expertise and strengthening communication among creatives and creative entrepreneurs. (End) M.D.M./A.M.H.
