Cairo, Nov 4 (KUNA) -- Egypt and Cyprus agreed today, Wednesday, to continue coordination and consultation within the framework of the strategic relations linking the two countries and to support all efforts aimed at de-escalation in the region. This came during a telephone call between Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Cypriot counterpart, Konstantinos Kompos, as part of regular communications to explore ways to strengthen the close ties between the two countries and to consult on regional developments.

The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that Abdelatty emphasized during the call the necessity of prioritizing political and diplomatic solutions and avoiding a slide into military confrontations, which would expand the scope of the conflict, given the negative repercussions for regional security and stability, international maritime navigation, global trade, and supply chains.

The statement added that the call also addressed the Libyan file, with a focus on the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean in light of recent developments. It further noted that Abdelatty highlighted the importance of the trilateral cooperation mechanism among Egypt, Cyprus, and Greece at various levels, which enhances the nature of the partnership among the three countries, and reviewed the preparations underway for the upcoming summit of the trilateral cooperation mechanism.
