London, Nov 4 (KUNA) -- British Prime Minister Andy Burnham said on Wednesday that “American voters have expressed their desire to see the world come together and focus on issues that matter to people,” commenting on the results of the midterm elections, which delivered a major victory to the Democrats over the Republicans.
In a statement to the press, relayed by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) from the venue of the Commonwealth Summit in Antigua and Barbuda, Burnham emphasized that there is now an opportunity for unity around the issue affecting everyone: the cost of living. He stressed that his government could not alleviate cost-of-living pressures unless the United States resolved its conflict with Iran, pledging to double its efforts to push for a resolution to the crises in the Middle East and Ukraine.
Burnham clarified that he would subsequently hold talks with several world leaders to seize the opportunity and work toward achieving these objectives.
Preliminary results of the 2026 U.S. midterm elections showed the Democratic Party winning a majority of seats in both chambers of Congress. According to incomplete results, Democrats secured a majority in the 100-seat Senate with 54 seats, compared to 44 for the Republicans, flipping seven states in their favor and gaining 25 new seats previously held by their opponents. In the House of Representatives elections, Democrats have so far won 228 of the 435 seats, compared to 139 for the Republicans, as vote counting continues. (End) M.R.N. / M.A.A.
