Paris, Nov 3 (KUNA) -- French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot held talks today in Paris with Thérèse Wagner, State Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, to discuss a number of issues of mutual interest. The French Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Barrot, a month after his visit to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which included Kinshasa and Bunia—the epicenter of the Ebola outbreak—reaffirmed France’s solidarity with the Congolese authorities and populations affected by the epidemic. The statement added that Barrot announced the delivery of 1.5 tons of medicines to non-governmental organizations working on the front lines to combat the epidemic, particularly ALIMA and Première Urgence Internationale. He noted that the minister also underscored France’s support for Congolese populations affected by the conflict in the Great Lakes region, clarifying that France’s position is based on respecting the territorial integrity of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and restoring its sovereignty over the Kivus. The talks also covered preparations for the upcoming summit of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie, scheduled to be held in Phnom Penh on November 15 and 16. (End) M.B. / M.A. H.A.
