Beijing, Feb 2 (KUNA) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks in Beijing today with Saudi State Minister and National Security Advisor Majid bin Mohammed Al-Eissa, discussing developments in the region and bilateral relations. Xinhua News Agency quoted Wang as saying that the situation in the region stands once again at a “critical crossroads” between peace and war, adding, “The path to peace may be rugged, but those who continue along it will inevitably reach their destination.” Wang emphasized that regional countries should enhance mutual understanding, rebuild trust, and work toward peaceful coexistence, while promoting the establishment of a regional security framework aligned with the long-term interests of the peoples of the region through consultation. He reaffirmed his country’s commitment to strengthening engagement with various parties, including Saudi Arabia, and playing a constructive role in dispelling the clouds of crisis looming over the region as quickly as possible, in line with Chinese President Xi Jinping’s initiatives to safeguard peace and stability in the Middle East. On bilateral relations, Wang noted that Saudi Arabia has remained an important comprehensive strategic partner for China, emphasizing the priority given to developing ties with the kingdom in China’s foreign policy. For his part, Al-Eissa conveyed to President Xi a message from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman outlining ways to develop bilateral relations between the two countries and address issues of mutual interest, without providing details.
