Moscow -- Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu said on Monday that Western measures against Russia are becoming increasingly aggressive as Moscow approaches achieving the objectives it describes as its “special military operation” in Ukraine, accusing European leaders of adopting a military escalation approach. The Russian Tass news agency quoted Shoigu as saying during his participation in the opening of the International Week “Peoples of Russia” and the Russian Forum for National Unity in Moscow that leaders of many European countries had chosen the path of military escalation in light of current international tensions, disregarding the needs of their citizens who are forced to take to the streets in large numbers to protest their governments’ policies. He added that the West, which previously claimed to lead the world, is “rapidly deteriorating,” as accusations in international relations are now made without the need to provide evidence to substantiate them, noting that Russia’s presence and continued development remain a concern for some European parties seeking “to seize Russian territories and resources.” Regarding talks on a settlement of the Ukrainian crisis, Shoigu said that European countries’ participation in the anticipated negotiations in Abu Dhabi requires discussion and consultation among all concerned parties. These remarks come as communications continue regarding the resumption of trilateral talks between Russia, the United States, and Ukraine in Abu Dhabi this November, as part of diplomatic efforts to explore a settlement of the Ukrainian crisis. In a separate development, Russian President Vladimir Putin extended greetings to participants and guests at the International Week “Peoples of Russia,” emphasizing the importance of preserving Russia’s historical, cultural, and spiritual heritage, safeguarding the languages, traditions, and customs of the peoples living there, and enhancing the involvement of associations, local communities, and voluntary organizations in this field. Putin, in a welcome message published on the official Kremlin website, stressed the importance of the “Spirit of Russia” project in supporting folk arts and crafts, national sports, and the development of tourist destinations, expressing confidence that the forum, held during the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia, would contribute to strengthening international humanitarian dialogue and expanding professional and personal ties among peoples. The International Week “Peoples of Russia” and the Russian Forum for National Unity aim to enhance cohesion among the multi-ethnic components of Russian society and consolidate the values of national unity and cultural diversity. The events will run from November 2 to 8, with participation by Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu, representatives of approximately 35 countries, as well as officials, experts, and representatives of cultural and scientific institutions, and will include discussions on humanitarian cooperation, inter-people dialogue, and the strengthening of international relations.
