Manama, January 11 (KUNA) -- The Kingdom of Bahrain expressed its strong condemnation and deep outrage today, Sunday, over the attack targeting the Qatari liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker Al-Mayda, owned by Qatar Navigation Limited, while it was sailing in the waters of the Arabian Gulf. In a statement, Bahrain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the attack as a serious threat to the safety of navigation, the marine environment, and global energy supply security, as well as a violation of international law and the provisions of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. The ministry reaffirmed Bahrain’s full solidarity with and support for sisterly Qatar in its efforts to protect its security and vital interests, and to ensure the safety of its vessels and crews. It called on the international community, particularly the Security Council, to fulfill its responsibilities and take firm measures to prevent the recurrence of such attacks, identify those responsible, hold them accountable, and guarantee freedom of navigation and safe passage in international waterways, thereby ensuring energy security, the smooth flow of global trade, and enhanced security, stability, and sustainable development in the region and worldwide.
