Qatar Condemns Attack on LNG Carrier in the Arabian Gulf

Doha -- Qatar expressed its strong condemnation and outrage over the attack on the LNG tanker Al-Maiyah, owned by Qatar Gas Transport Companies Limited (Qatargas), while it was sailing in the Arabian Gulf, deeming it a dangerous act that threatens the safety of maritime navigation and the security of global energy supplies. The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement on Sunday that Qatar reserves the right to take all necessary measures in accordance with international law and the UN Charter to protect its assets, safeguard its interests, and ensure the safety of its ships and crews. It noted that the relevant authorities have launched investigations to ascertain the circumstances of the incident and identify those responsible. The ministry warned of the dangers of such reckless and irresponsible practices and their potentially serious repercussions on the security and stability of the region and the global economy, particularly the potential environmental risks arising from attacks on energy tankers and their hazardous impacts on the marine environment and water security in the region.
