Istanbul, Oct 31 (KUNA) -- Turkey officially nominated former diplomat and Foreign Minister Feridun Sinirlioglu for the post of UN Secretary-General on Saturday, a move aimed at breaking the deadlock in the race to select Antonio Guterres’s successor, whose term ends at the end of December next year. The Anadolu Agency reported that Turkey’s UN envoy, Ahmet Yildiz, delivered the nomination letter signed by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to the presidents of the UN General Assembly and the Security Council. Sinirlioglu, 70, has served since December 2024 as Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). He was Turkey’s Foreign Minister in 2015 and served as his country’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations from 2016 to 2023. (End)
