Kuwait City, Oct 31 (KUNA) -- A specialized economic report stated today on Saturday that the liquidity volume of the Kuwait Stock Exchange during the first ten months of the current year (i.e., over 202 trading days) reached approximately 17.131 billion Kuwaiti dinars (about $52.763 billion).

The report by Al-Shal Consultancies clarified that the average daily trading value for the period stood at around 84.8 million dinars (approximately $261 million), representing a decline of about 23.9 percent compared to the average daily trading value for the same period in 2025, which was around 111.4 million dinars (about $343 million). It also marked a 21.2 percent drop compared to the 2025 annual average of 107.6 million dinars (about $331.4 million).

The report noted that trading activity in October 2026 was lower than in September 2026, with a negative performance across all market indices. The First Market index fell by 0.3 percent, the Main Market index by 0.7 percent, and the General index by the same margin, reflecting an overall market performance decline of 3.7 percent. The Main 50 index experienced a sharper drop of 7.7 percent.

Regarding absolute stock exchange liquidity, the report indicated a decrease in October compared to September, reaching approximately 1.482 billion dinars (about $4.564 billion), down from 2.448 billion dinars (about $7.539 billion) in September, a decline of 39.5 percent. The average daily trading value for October was recorded at 70.6 million dinars (approximately $217.4 million), marking a 36.6 percent decrease from the September average of 111.3 million dinars (about $324.8 million).

The report stated that liquidity trends since the beginning of the year suggest that half of the listed companies accounted for only 7.8 percent of total liquidity. Among them, 50 companies captured just 3.1 percent of liquidity, while two companies recorded no trading activity at all.

Regarding relatively small and liquid companies, the report explained that 12 companies, representing 3.6 percent of the total market capitalization of listed firms, received 20 percent of the stock exchange’s liquidity. This means their share of liquidity was 5.5 times their contribution to market capitalization. This indicates that significant liquidity activity continues to exclude about half of the listed companies, while conversely, it strongly favors companies with minimal market capitalization.

The report pointed out that the First Market accounted for 945.4 million dinars (about $2.9 billion), or 63.8 percent of the stock exchange’s liquidity. Within this market, approximately half of its companies captured 77.9 percent of its liquidity, which amounted to 49.7 percent of the total stock exchange liquidity, while the other half received the remainder, or 22.1 percent of its liquidity.

Furthermore, the Main Market accounted for 535.6 million dinars (about $1.6 billion), or 36.2 percent of the stock exchange’s liquidity. Within this segment, 20 percent of its companies captured 81 percent of its liquidity, while the remaining 80 percent of its companies received only 19 percent of its liquidity, indicating a high level of liquidity concentration.

The report noted that the Main Market’s share of total trading value during the first ten months of the current year amounted to 36.1 percent.

The report concluded by comparing liquidity distribution between the First and Main Markets, noting a decline in the Main Market’s share of total liquidity for the year so far in 2026 compared to the same period in 2025. In 2025, the First Market’s share was 55.5 percent, leaving 44.5 percent for the Main Market’s liquidity.
