Aden, Oct 30 (KUNA) -- The Yemeni government affirmed on Friday that the renewed Houthi attacks on the Ma’ashiq Presidential Palace and Aden International Airport, coinciding with an attempt to target Mecca, constitute an escalation that threatens the security and stability of the region.
A statement issued by the Yemeni Council of Ministers said that targeting the Ma’ashiq Palace for the second time and Aden International Airport for the seventh time reveals an escalating approach that goes beyond targeting state institutions and civilian facilities to threatening regional security and showing disregard for the sanctity of Islamic holy sites.
The statement clarified that repeatedly targeting Aden International Airport, a vital civilian facility serving citizens and linking Yemen to the world, constitutes a direct assault on their interests and an attempt to disrupt the work of public institutions and undermine the state’s capacity to fulfill its obligations.
It affirmed that targeting the Ma’ashiq Palace, which houses the government headquarters and state institutions in the temporary capital of Aden, will not disrupt the work of legitimate institutions or deter the government from carrying out its responsibilities and exercising its constitutional powers.
It stressed that confronting these attacks requires a comprehensive institutional response, including protecting facilities, raising security readiness, enhancing coordination among competent authorities, and taking necessary measures to ensure the uninterrupted operation of institutions and civilian infrastructure.
The government renewed its commitment to protecting citizens and public facilities and securing Aden, in coordination with the Presidential Leadership Council, local authorities, and military and security agencies, to ensure the cohesion of state institutions and their ability to confront challenges.
It expressed Yemen’s full solidarity with Saudi Arabia in facing threats targeting its security, emphasizing that the coincidence of the attacks with the attempt to target Mecca places the international community before a clear responsibility regarding the threat to regional security, civilian facilities, and the sanctity of the holiest Islamic sites.
It called for a practical international stance commensurate with the severity of these threats, preventing their continuation and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable.
It affirmed that targeting the state will not paralyze government functions, that targeting Aden will not diminish its role, and that terrorism will not replace state authority or serve as a means to impose a coup on the Yemeni people. (End) S.N.S./M.A.H.A.
