Kuwait City, October 30 (KUNA) – The Australian men’s padel team qualified for the 2026 World Padel Championship after defeating Egypt 2-1 in the final of the Asian and African qualifiers, which were hosted in Kuwait and served as the pathway to the 2026 World Padel Championship to be held in Qatar. In the women’s competition, both Egypt, after defeating Tunisia 2-0, and Indonesia, after beating Japan 2-1, secured their spots in the World Championship.
Speaking to KUNA on Friday, Wael Al-Qatami, president of the Kuwait Padel Club, said the qualifiers featured 27 teams: 14 men’s teams competing for one World Cup berth, and 13 women’s teams competing for two berths.
Al-Qatami praised the level and technical performance displayed by the Kuwaiti team during the qualifiers, which was eliminated in the semi-finals after losing to Egypt. He wished the team success in future tournaments and expressed gratitude to all sponsors and supporters, as well as to the Public Authority for Youth and Sports, for their backing of the national team.
He noted that Kuwait possesses the national expertise capable of hosting such tournaments and has a fan base passionate about padel. Hosting the continental qualifiers reflects the status that the sport has achieved in Kuwait, where it enjoys widespread popularity.
The qualifiers were organized by the Kuwait Padel Club in cooperation with the International Padel Federation (FIP) and BNK, with matches held at the courts of the Oro Padel and Padel N clubs.
The 2026 World Padel Championship finals are scheduled to take place in Doha, Qatar, from November 2 to 7, featuring 32 teams—16 men’s and 16 women’s—competing at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex. (End) M.Y.M / M.A.H.A
