Beijing, Oct 30 (KUNA) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping called on Friday for enhanced communication and coordination with Germany to establish a new model of cooperation based on equality, mutual benefit, and strategic stability. Xinhua News Agency reported that this came during talks between President Xi and his German counterpart, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who arrived in China on Tuesday as part of an official visit lasting until Saturday.
Xi stated that China and Germany have remained trusting friends and partners supporting each other’s success since the establishment of diplomatic relations more than half a century ago, emphasizing the need to send positive signals of openness and cooperation to the world, rather than closure and confrontation.
Xi pointed to the convergence of the two countries’ development strategies and the broad prospects for bilateral cooperation, announcing Beijing’s intention to enhance collaboration in artificial intelligence, green and low-carbon development, services trade, and the digital economy, thereby boosting the future competitiveness of both sides.
He expressed hope that Germany would commit to openness, create a fair, transparent, and non-discriminatory business environment for Chinese companies, and view China’s development and cooperation with China with an open and positive mindset, adopting a rational, pragmatic, and friendly policy toward Beijing based on mutual respect and equality, thereby opening a new chapter in the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
Xi welcomed Beijing’s view that Germany should play a greater role in European and international affairs, noting that as the world’s second- and third-largest economies, China and Germany bear significant responsibility for developing China-Europe relations and ensuring the stability and growth of the global economy.
He affirmed that cooperation between China and Europe outweighs competition and that commonalities surpass differences, with the core of their economic and trade relations lying in complementary advantages, mutual benefit, and win-win outcomes. He stressed that differences and problems can be resolved provided both sides remain committed to being partners and engaging in equal dialogue.
He noted that differences and problems would not hinder the progress of China-Europe relations, expressing hope that the European side would meet China halfway to build a more equal and orderly multipolar world and promote inclusive and beneficial economic globalization.
For his part, Steinmeier said during the talks that his country adheres to the “One China” policy, has full confidence in the future of relations with China, and is ready to enhance cooperation with China in trade, science and technology, environmental protection, and cultural exchanges.
The German president emphasized the importance of resolving economic and trade differences through dialogue and consultation to achieve win-win outcomes, announcing Berlin’s intention to work with Beijing to uphold the purposes of the UN Charter, support free trade and World Trade Organization rules, and reject protectionism and trade wars.
