Beirut, October 29 (KUNA) -- German Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Reem Radwan reaffirmed on Thursday her country’s continued support for Lebanon, emphasizing the importance of Beirut’s progress in implementing financial and economic reforms and enhancing transparency and governance.
Speaking during meetings with Lebanese officials, Radwan said that advancing the reform agenda would help restore confidence in the Lebanese economy, create a conducive environment for investment, and expand prospects for economic and developmental cooperation between the two countries.
In a statement, the media office of Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri said that Berri discussed with the German minister developments in Lebanon and the region, as well as ground-level developments stemming from the ongoing Israeli aggression against Lebanon and the systematic destruction of southern villages and towns.
The statement added that the meeting addressed Israel’s failure to comply with international legal resolutions, foremost among them United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, as well as the agreements reached in 2024 and the recent framework agreement brokered under U.S. sponsorship.
The statement quoted Berri warning against the dangers of ending the mandate of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) before the full implementation of Resolution 1701 and the complete end of the Israeli occupation of Lebanese territories. Berri stressed the necessity of strengthening the partnership between Lebanon and Germany and the European Union, and of continuing support for the Lebanese Armed Forces.
In a related development, the German minister met with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, discussing bilateral relations and ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries.
Salam expressed gratitude to Germany for its sustained support for Lebanon, emphasizing the importance of continuing this support, particularly in assisting recovery and reconstruction efforts in the south, helping residents return to their towns, and strengthening the state’s and its institutions’ capacity to meet urgent needs.
