Cairo, October 29 (KUNA) -- The Arab League announced it will organize a scientific symposium titled “The Future of Arab Media After Wars and Crises” next Sunday to discuss enhancing the capacity of Arab media to counter disinformation and protect societal awareness amid conflicts and digital transformations.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Arab League said the symposium, held in cooperation with Cairo University, comes against the backdrop of rapid transformations in the communication and media environment across the Arab region, driven by the succession of crises and regional conflicts and the growing reliance on digital spaces and social media platforms as primary sources of information.

It added that these transformations have highlighted the importance of managing the information and media landscape as a fundamental element of national and Arab national security, noting that managing wars and crises is no longer confined to military, political, or humanitarian dimensions.

The League explained that the wars and crises the region has witnessed in recent years have given rise to a new media reality, in which the battle for public awareness and opinion is no less important than military and political confrontations.

It considered that the digital environment has created growing challenges, including the spread of disinformation, the proliferation of competing narratives, and the rising influence of digital platforms and artificial intelligence in shaping public opinion trends.

It emphasized the importance of developing more integrated Arab approaches to strategic communication management during crises, which would contribute to countering disinformation, enhancing collective awareness, and restoring public trust.

It pointed out that the objective of holding the symposium is to bring together decision-makers, experts, academics, and representatives of media institutions to develop a shared Arab vision for media during wars and crises and to build a media system better equipped to protect Arab information security.

It added that the symposium’s sessions will cover four main axes: strategic management of the Arab media landscape after crises, strategic narratives and building public awareness and trust, information security and countering disinformation in the post-crisis environment, and formulating an Arab vision for building a sustainable media model and enhancing soft power.
