Cairo, October 29 (KUNA) — The Arab League called on Thursday for the development of the technical and vocational education and training (TVET) system in member states and for aligning its outputs with labor market needs, thereby contributing to skills development, enhancing employment opportunities, and supporting economic and social development. This call came during the first meeting of the comprehensive development plan for the TVET system in Arab countries, held at the Arab League headquarters with the participation of representatives of member states, specialized Arab organizations and unions, and the private sector.

Dr. Faraj Al-Ajmi, Minister-Counselor and Director of the Department of Education, Training, and Scientific Research at the Arab League, stated that developing this system requires adopting an integrated Arab vision based on improving the quality of education and training, updating programs and curricula, developing skills in line with labor market needs, enhancing private sector participation, and leveraging pioneering Arab experiences.

Al-Ajmi added that technical and vocational education and training constitutes one of the fundamental pillars for supporting economic and social development, keeping pace with rapid technological transformations, and meeting the needs of productive and service sectors for qualified personnel.

He clarified that the meeting would discuss the main axes of the development plan for the vocational education system and its implementation mechanisms, as well as coordination among member states and relevant institutions, exchange of expertise and successful experiences, and integration of national initiatives in the field of vocational education and training.

He pointed to the possibility of forming a high-level coordination committee tasked with coordinating efforts, monitoring the preparation and implementation of the development plan for the vocational education system, setting priorities and areas of joint cooperation, thereby supporting the integration of roles among relevant stakeholders.

In this context, he emphasized the importance of strengthening partnerships between education and training institutions and the private sector to achieve alignment between the outputs of technical and vocational education and the requirements of the labor market, thereby contributing to enhancing the efficiency of the Arab system and responding to the demands of sustainable development.
