Istanbul, October 28 (KUNA) -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a telephone conversation with his U.S. counterpart, Donald Trump, on Wednesday to discuss bilateral relations and regional issues. The Turkish Presidency said in a statement that “Erdogan spoke with Trump, reaffirming that Ankara is making efforts to resolve issues related to the Strait of Hormuz and Yemen through diplomatic channels.” The statement added that Erdogan assured Trump of Turkey’s readiness to support efforts aimed at reviving the diplomatic track between Russia and Ukraine and ending the conflict between the two countries through dialogue and diplomacy. The call comes as Turkey intensifies its diplomatic moves to contain regional tensions, particularly amid concerns over a potential resumption of military confrontation between the United States and Iran. These communications coincide with Turkish initiatives, coordinated with several regional countries including Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Egypt, to discuss developments in the security situation and ways to de-escalate tensions and ensure the security of vital sea lanes, foremost among them the Strait of Hormuz.
