Tunis, October 28 (KUNA) -- Kuwait presented an Arab working paper today at the 40th Arab Conference of Heads of Drug Control Agencies, organized by the General Secretariat of the Arab Ministers of Interior Council in Tunis, addressing new and emerging methods of combating the drug scourge.
In a statement to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Major General Mohammed Qabazard, Director General of the General Administration for Combating Narcotics at Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior, said the objective of the working paper was to enhance vigilance and caution in drug control, inform security delegations of emerging methods in drug trafficking and distribution, and support awareness campaigns to protect Arab youth from this scourge.
He called for strengthening Arab cooperation to combat drugs and protect societies, particularly Arab youth, from the dangers of narcotics and psychoactive substances, emphasizing that drug control requires intensified preventive, therapeutic, and security efforts. He also reaffirmed Kuwait’s commitment to supporting Arab and international efforts in this field, noting that drugs pose a threat to Arab security by fueling money-laundering networks and organized crime financing, making their fight a societal responsibility that demands conscious Arab cooperation and integration.
Qabazard stated that “national and security duties oblige us to work in a spirit of unity, exchange expertise and field experiences, and intensify preventive awareness about drugs,” highlighting the importance of coordinating Arab efforts and activating joint cooperation to counter their impacts.
The 40th Arab Conference of Heads of Drug Control Agencies is being held with the participation of the Criminal Intelligence Center for Combating Narcotics at the Gulf Cooperation Council, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the European Union’s project against organized crime and terrorism, and the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (Europol), with the aim of supporting joint Arab security coordination in addressing the drug phenomenon.
