Algiers, October 28 (KUNA) -- Air Algérie resumed its flights to Libya today, Wednesday, after a 12-year suspension, launching a service connecting the Algerian capital, Algiers, to Tripoli with an inaugural flight departing from Houari Boumediene Airport.

Seddik Daddouk, Acting Director of Sales and Networks at Air Algérie, told reporters that the route will operate with two flights per week, providing diverse options for passenger and cargo transport and supporting economic and commercial ties between the two countries. He expressed hope that this route would serve as an additional pillar to strengthen cooperation bridges between the fraternal nations of Algeria and Libya.

For his part, Libyan Ambassador to Algeria, Saleh Himma, stated before the flight’s departure that resuming regular air services between Algiers and Tripoli, which had been suspended since 2014, represents an important step to enhance bilateral relations and consolidate the historical and fraternal bonds between the two countries. He noted that the route is not limited to commercial aspects but carries economic, social, and humanitarian dimensions that will enhance communication between the two peoples and facilitate passenger travel.

In this regard, he praised the efforts of Air Algérie and Algerian authorities in realizing this initiative, highlighting Algeria’s importance as a hub for air connectivity and transit to international and continental destinations.

Air Algérie had previously announced the launch of five new international routes to African and Asian countries as part of efforts to develop its international network and strengthen air connectivity. (End) M.R. / N.A.A.
