Riyadh -- The Saudi Cabinet on Tuesday reaffirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to establishing security and stability at both the regional and international levels, and underscored the pivotal role of the Mecca Agreement countries in consolidating the region’s security and stability. This came during a cabinet session chaired by Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, who reviewed the substance of talks held between the Mecca Agreement for Joint Defense countries and senior Iranian officials. The Council affirmed support for the mediation efforts undertaken by the State of Qatar and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to de-escalate tensions and backed all initiatives aimed at achieving peace. It commended the high capabilities of air defense systems, which successfully thwarted repeated attempts by the Houthi terrorist militias to target Mecca, Medina, and several other Saudi cities and facilities. The Council condemned these criminal attacks as a serious aggression against the Kingdom’s sovereignty and the sanctity of Islamic holy sites, and as a blatant violation of the sentiments of Muslims worldwide, while affirming the Kingdom’s legitimate right to firmly defend the security of the Two Holy Mosques, their visitors, citizens, and residents. The Council noted that the localization rate of military spending in the Kingdom reached 27.3 percent by the end of 2025, surpassing the annual target of 24 percent, with local content increasing to 40.9 percent. It emphasized that this reflects the adequacy of national capabilities, supports integrated cooperation between the public and private sectors, and demonstrates steady progress toward localizing more than 50 percent of total military spending by 2030. The Council also reviewed several performance indicators of the government work system and the progress achieved in administration, governance, and institutional excellence, commending the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development for winning an international award from the International Project Management Institute, outperforming 53 entities from 28 countries, thereby contributing to enhancing the effectiveness of implementing initiatives, achieving targets, and aligning them with national priorities.
